Mendelssohn: Elijah
March 6, 7, 8, 2020
March 6, 7, 8, 2020
Felix Mendelssohn's powerful oratorio Elijah is a masterpiece of the Romantic period inspired by the passions and oratorios of Bach and Handel. Choristers and attendees of our 1986 and 1999 Elijah performances still cite them as among our most memorable concerts. The account of Elijah's prophetic vision and efforts to dissuade his people from the worship of Baal and return them to their faith is infused with human drama, the cataclysmic forces of nature, and rich symbolism. We will be joined in our performances by Jubilate Orchestra (playing period instruments) and superb soloists:
Bradley Ellingboe, bass (Elijah)
Jennifer Ashworth, soprano
Heidi Waterman, alto
James Hogan, tenor
