Dear Friends and Patrons of the Bay Choral Guild:
I am writing to tell you that last night’s Bay Choral Guild’s performance of Mendelssohn’s Elijah in Campbell was a great success. Chorus, soloists, and the orchestra were wonderful, and the audience response was overwhelming. I also want to assure you that tonight’s and Sunday afternoon’s concerts will occur, as planned— 8:00pm at the Palo Alto First United Methodist Church (FUMC) tonight and 4:30pm at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in San Francisco on Sunday. Sanford Dole’s pre-concert talks will start at 7:30pm and 4:00pm, respectively. Don’t forget to set your clocks ahead one hour if you’re attending Sunday’s concert! Attending a live performance of this great masterwork is a profoundly moving and uplifting experience, and one we feel is especially important to our own and our audience’s well-being. We look forward to sharing these concerts with you!
With the uncertainties and anxiety about the spread of the coronavirus, we also urge those of you who are attending these concerts to follow the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations to prevent infection, including maintaining a safe (4-6 ft.) distance from others (easily achieved at all of our performance venues due to their spacious sanctuaries and balconies), taking recommended personal sanitation and other precautions to avoid infection, and refraining from attending if you are ill.
We are monitoring the updates from the U.S. and local health agencies to guide our future course of action and are taking measures to ensure a safe and healthy concert environment for all. The situation is ongoing and constantly changing, and we will continue to guide our decisions by recommended safety protocols in order to promote the safety of our audience and performers.
Because FUMC has live streaming capabilities and has granted us permission for their use, we are very pleased to tell you that Sanford’s pre-concert talk and the concert will be broadcast live at http://firstpaloalto.com/live-webcast/ starting at 7:30pm tonight, Saturday, March 7.
On behalf of Bay Choral Guild, we hope that you remain healthy and well. We deeply appreciate your support and patronage.
Sincerely,
Sandra Wilson
