Bay Choral Guild’s 2010-2011 Concert Season: “Celebrating the Art of Unaccompanied Singing”

Bay Choral Guild Presents:

A Festival of Masses

June 3, 4, 5, 2011
Indisputably the most important genre in the development of choral music, settings of the Roman Catholic Mass have been included in the catalogues of nearly all celebrated composers throughout the ages. This concert will track the evolution of musical styles in Western Europe from the 17th century to the 20th. We start in Renaissance Spain with Tomás Luis de Victoria‘s Missa O Quam Gloriosum, then move to 19th-century Germany with Josef Rheinberger‘s Mass in E flat major for Double Choir, and arrive in the 20th century with the Mass in G of that iconoclastic Frenchman, Francis Poulenc. Finally, we‘ll send you on your way with a rousing benediction by Estonian composer Urmas Sisask.
