December 12, 13 and 14, 2008
For the first concert of our 30th Anniversary Season, Bay Choral Guild (BCG) welcomes
the Holidays with Christmas music from Russia and Eastern Europe, featuring:
- Dmitry Bortniansky ’s Sacred Concerto No. 6
- A rediscovered Cherubic Hymn by Bulgarian composer Dobri Hristov
- Anthems by Chesnokov, Gretchaninoff, and Tchaikovsky
- Carols from Russia, Romania, and Ukraine.
In the grand tradition of Russian choral music, these glorious compositions are majestic and simple, some familiar, some unfamiliar in the West, but all are resplendent with extraordinary power and grace.
